what’s
it all about?
Systems and Control focusses heavily on how products
work. By considering a product as a system, it breaks
the system down into three separate stages; input, process
and output. The system may be mechanical, such as an
orange juicer, an electrical system, such as a temperature
alarm, or a microprocessor system, such as a program
to control a heater and a fan in a greenhouse.
why choose it?
This option would be suited to students with an interest
in product engineering, civil, mechanical and electrical
engineering as well as an interest in microprocessor
control and computer programming. It has strong links
with Maths and Science subjects, particularly Physics,
and can assist students who expect to pursue Maths and
Science subjects at A level.
Example
of a Systems and Control Project: A device to display
the number of faults recorded by a show-jumper.
