9 Fashion Project
Context
The teenage market is one of the fastest growing in the
UK as more young people take responsibility for choosing
and buying new items for their wardrobe. Teenagers also
feel the need to express their personality through their
clothes and want to seek out interesting and unusual styles
that reflect their individual taste. A new shop is opening
in your town which will specialise in styles for the teenage
market. You have been asked to design a new range of tops
that reflect the current trend for garments to be decorated
and embellished in different ways and to make up a sample
to show to the shop’s design team.
From this context you must develop a design brief for
a marketable product.
In order to do this you must first carry out some research
using different information sources.
Working in a group of 3 or 4 write down all the different
sources you could use for collecting relevant information
for this project.
Now brainstorm the context to see what information you
need to focus on.
Which sources will be most useful to gain information?
Organise within your group how you will divide up the
task of collecting relevant information.
You have 2 weeks to undertake this research and to present
it as a group poster that can be displayed on the wall.
It should show a clear focus of what you have been looking
at and a conclusion to your findings.
Your group will give a short presentation of your work
lasting no more than 5minutes to the rest of the teaching
group. Your teacher will set the date for this.
After the research you will write your design brief. This
will be a short, clear statement outlining the design
problem. It should include who the user of the product
will be, the intended market for the product, and the
words design and make.
